Background of Alumni and Convocation
Convocation
Convocation is a statutory body comprising the Vice Chancellor and Principal, the Deputy Vice Chancellor and Campus Principal, the Registrar, academic employees and all the graduates or diplomats of the University of Limpopo , from hence forth, UL.
Academic employees on the permanent staff of UL, Professors emeriti and other retired academic employees are members of the convocation.
Members of the Convocation elect the President of Convocation, who acts as chairperson at all its meetings as well as twelve members of the Executive Committee of Convocation (EXCO). The President and two elected EXCO representatives sit on the UL Council.
The President, who is the Chairperson of EXCO, holds Office for a period of three years from the meeting at which he/she is elected.
Whenever the Office of President becomes vacant, the Vice Chancellor and Principal acts as President until a successor is elected at the following meeting of the Convocation for a period of three years.
The day-to-day administrative affairs of Convocation are managed by the Office of Alumni Relations.
As an important link between the University and its Convocants, the Office of Alumni and Convocation Relations produces regular communications including electronic newsletters, an interactive website that includes discussion for both Convocation and Alumni Relations. Class reunions; other functions are arranged and support is given to Alumni Chapters in the country. The Office also managers an Alumni shop.
he Office of Alumni Relations is situated in A Block at the Turfloop Campus and at the Clinical Pathology Building , 5 th Floor, Marketing and Communications at our Medunsa Campus.
