VISION

To promote the health of South African by addressing social, economic, political and environmental factors that impact on health and well - being by developing a cadre of Health Promotion researchers and practitioners to enable the development of appropriate programmes aimed at meeting the Health Promotion needs of the country. This will be achieved by optimum utilization of Health Promotion resources, and collaboration with relevant stakeholders. This approach to improving the health status of all South Africans is underpinned by the National Health Plan (1994) and the White Paper for the transformation of Health Services (1997) which emphasize Health Promotion as central to Primary Health Care.

MISSION

The Health Promotion Programme would share expertise and resources in the following areas.

  • Development of and/or enhancement of existing courses on health promotion at undergraduate and postgraduate levels

  • Standardization of training on health promotion theory and practice.

  • Building capacity in teaching; research and management of community outreach project/programmes etc.
