UL Remembers Onkgopotse Tiro The University of Limpopo will host a notable event in memory of
former 1972 heroic SRC President of the then University of
the North, Onkgopotse Abram Tiro, on 12 September
2012. Expected to be present during this occasion is his
family from Dinokana, his former friends, political forums, UL alumni
and members of the Mankweng community.
Tiro was born and bred in Dinokana, a small village near Zeerust,
and he was enrolled for a Degree in Humanities. He became an Activist
and a Teacher during his youth. He is one of the founders that got
brutally assassinated by a parcel bomb in the year 1974 while in
exile at Botswana. Tiro will always be remembered for the inestimable
contributions he made in bringing about the demise of apartheid and
ushering in our cherished democracy.
The event will be concluded by unveiling of a plaque
in his memory. It will be held at the University hall that was
named after him, the Great Onkgopotse Tiro Hall,Turfloop
Campus.
