ICASA visits UL Reviewing the Broadcasting
regulation
The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA)
recently visited the University of Limpopo (UL) to engage media
students about the review of the broadcasting regulatory framework
towards a digitally converged environment. The visit, aimed at
examining the efficacy of the existing broadcasting regulatory
framework in a digital environment, afforded students the opportunity
to learn more about the dealings of the regulatory body.
In his presentation, Mr Siphiwe Hlongwane, Researcher at ICASA, said
that regulators are compelled to revisits their policies in order to
keep abreast with the digital broadcasting framework. He added
that the need to revamp regulatory regimes as a result of the
transition to digital broadcasting has been recognised in various
countries, more so in Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Ireland.
Hlongwane explained that it is vital for ICASA to interact with Media
Students as they deal with different spheres of the media. Date created: 2012-08-21 17:05:10
