Dr Regina Maphanga-Women on the Move The University of Limpopo continues to play an important role in the
progress being made by our democratic country. Certainly, there is
nothing that illustrates this assertion more than the honours garnered
by our distinguished academics.
A role model is to be found in the winner of the category
“Distinguished Young Women Scientists – Physical and
Engineering Scientists” of the Department of Science and
Technology’s “Women in Science Awards”. She is none
other than Dr Rapela Regina Maphanga, a Senior Researcher in the
University’s Materials Modelling Centre.
From the citation, it is clear that Dr Maphanga is an emerging
leader in the field of Computational Modelling of Materials. A cursory
glance at her curriculum vitae will reveal that, amongst others, she
has published 13 articles in accredited journals, supervised 6
honours students, 4 Master’s and a Ph.D student. She
represented South Africa during the World Economic Forum’s 2011
annual meeting held in China. She is a member of the Global Young
Academy’s science education and women in science working groups.
Furthermore, she is a science advisor for the renowned publishing
company, Wiley Publishing.
The University cannot but be proud to have, in its midst, a scholar
such as Dr Rapela Maphanga; Dr Maphanga, we salute you! Date created: 2012-09-03 15:11:57
