10th Annual Onkgopotse Tiro Memorial Lecture

Theme: South Africa’s best gift to Tiro: 50 years on”

This year, don’t miss the 10th Annual Onkgopotse Tiro Memorial Lecture to be delivered by Professor Barney Pityana, Chairperson of the National Lotteries Commission and former Vice-Chancellor and Principal of the University of South Africa (UNISA).

Onkgopotse Tiro, a fearless political activist, teacher, and member of the South African Students Organisation and Black Consciousness Movement, made a significant impact on the liberation struggle before being tragically killed by a parcel bomb.

His powerful speech at the 1972 graduation ceremony at Turfloop, where he boldly criticized the Bantu Education Act of 1953, is etched in history as the “Turfloop Testimony“.

Let’s honour his legacy and celebrate his contributions by attending this remarkable event hosted by the University of Limpopo.
