Call for papers: 2nd Annual Limpopo Oral History Conference

The University of Limpopo in partnership with the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, the University of Venda and the Department of Education invite staff members, post- and undergraduate students to submit abstracts for the 2nd Annual Limpopo Oral History Conference under the theme: “Transformation and national consciousness: Mandela and beyond”. The conference aims to explore narratives of transformation and national consciousness in South Africa since the Mandela period until the current administration.  The political landscape since Mandela redefined our (re)positioning, (re)placement, representation, remembering and our voice. 

Participants are invited to probe into the given theme to examine its varied conjugations and ramifications.  Presentations are not limited to the following sub-themes:
  • Memory and memorialization
  • Identities, nationalisms and sexualities
  • Mandela legacies
  • State capture, corruption and Guptarization
  • Governance, Policies and legalities
  • Heritage, culture, and intangible heritage
  • Afrocentricity, Africology, Africanisms and Decolonisation Projects
  • Indigenous epistemology and frameworks
  • War, Security, Peace, peacekeeping and peace maintenance, refugees
  • Home and Homelessness, dispossessions and land expropriation
  • Orality, oral testimonies and methodologies
  • #Mustfall regimes and Student Activism
  • Feminisms and gynocriticism
  • Albertina Sisulu and her contemporaries
  • Family Trees and Genealogies
  • Oral History in Schools, Curriculum and Community Histories
NB: PAPERS DELIVERED MUST BE BASED ON ORAL HISTORY RESEARCH, AND NOT ONLY ON PUBLISHED SOURCES

Guidelines for abstracts:
  • All abstracts or case study reports should be (100-300 words)
  • The relevant conference theme/sub-theme should be indicated
  • A short biography of the presenter (50-100 words)
  • Contact information of the presenter (name and surname, postal address, e-mail address, phone and fax numbers)
Deadline for submission of abstracts is on or before 06 July 2018
