ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Matriculation Certificate (prior 2008)

Students who completed Grade 12 prior to 2008 may apply for admission to the University with the normal Grade 12 Senior Certificate with full university exemption by converting their grade symbols to an APS.

National Senior Certificate (NSC) with Bachelor exemption

Prospective students with an NSC who wish to enrol in any undergraduate programme at the University of Limpopo should meet the following requirements:

  • Life Orientation with an achievement level of at least three (3).
  • Aligned with the language policy of the university, English as a language of learning and teaching with an achievement level of at least three (3).
  • The required minimum levels of achievement in specific subjects as stipulated in the Calendars of each Faculty, provided that:
  • Four 20-credit subjects were achieved with a minimum NSC achievement level of four (4) for degree programmes and
  • Four 20-credit subjects were achieved with a minimum NSC achievement level of three (3) for diploma programmes.
  • The required Admission Point Score (APS) as stipulated in the Calendars of each Faculty.
  • Meeting the minimum APS for a particular programme does not, however, guarantee admission.
National Certificate (Vocational)
  • Students who have successfully completed a National Certificate Vocational NC(V) Level 4 qualification will require the following and will be subject to Faculty Admission Specifications and Placement Tests:
  • NC(V) level 4 certificate with 3 fundamental subjects 60% (Life Orientation included) and 4 relevant vocational subjects at 70% for degree programmes.
  • NC(V) level 4 certificate with 3 fundamental subjects 50% (Life Orientation included) and 3 compulsory vocational subjects at 60% for diploma programmes.
The Admission Point Score (APS) system

The system is a simple calculation that uses your NSC or Grade 12 university exemption results to determine if a prospective student meets the minimum requirements to gain entry into:

  • The University of Limpopo
  • A specific programme of choice offered by a Faculty within the University.

Meeting the minimum APS for a specific programme, however, does not guarantee admission. The calculation is done by adding the achievement levels in six (6) recognised 20 credit subjects as specified by the Faculties’ specific requirements.

REAKGONA DISABILITY CENTRE

Mastered the art of creating a liveable environment that allows students with disabilities

The University of Limpopo has mastered the art of creating a liveable environment that allows students with disabilities to access high-quality education and to navigate their way around the campus. The centre primarily creates a dependable, accessible and welcoming environment in which students with disabilities can gain access to, and succeed in, all academic programmes while equally contributing to the University’s academic legacy. To achieve this goal, the centre has various sections that provide specific learning resources for students on campus.

The Centre provides different services, including computer facilities, accessible material and notes, Orientation and Mobility (O&M) to acquaint students with visual impairments with the University environment, limited assistive devices, scheduling extra time for exams/tests, and counselling. The aim is to inspire and support equal academic participation in the learning environment for students with disabilities. It currently operates six service areas that provide specific learning resources: Reception, Administration, Audio-braille library, Braille services area, Information & Technology, and Orientation & Mobility services.

Some of the cutting-edge learning resources include:

Low-Vision Reading Room
The Low-Vision Reading Room, which is equipped with large-screen computers and electronic magnifiers to assist partially-sighted students in reading their textbooks.
Audio-Braille Library
The Audio-Braille Library, which allows for easy access to academic materials. Students can borrow Braille and printed books.
Brailling Section
The Brailling Section transcribes text into alternative formats for visually-impaired students. All students can use this service, which includes Braille and enlarged text.
Computer Laboratory
The Computer Laboratory provides computer applications technology to blind students, using specialised software, in order to technologically equip them and enable them to study independently in today’s digital world. The service area prepares students to use advanced adaptive technology for multimodal learning.

The centre also provides Orientation and Mobility Instruction for blind and partially-sighted students, who are trained to learn their various routes on campus and in the surrounding area, allowing them to move freely and independently around the campus and shopping complex. Furthermore, O&M helps all students who are blind, visually impaired, or have multiple disabilities to be independent, not only in travel but also in any daily task they want to do, such as learning how to cook, iron clothes, sweep, bake, or make sandwiches.
