ULSTF Awarding Bursaries
The Trust only started allocating funds in 1999. It has, to date, awarded bursaries to three hundred and ten (636) students, at a maximum of R10 000.00 each. The successful students are selected during the AGMs held in August. It has thus far allocated more than R4, 5m in bursaries.
The SRC is committed to contribute in excess of R300 000.00 towards the Trust.
ULSTF Activities
Trustees always recognize the contribution the University has to make in the development of communities it serves, particularly through graduates who are the direct beneficiary of the funding efforts. The Trust also understands the challenges facing South Africa’s higher education sector and the need to prioritise development matters.
The focal point of the Trust is in supporting students in the fields of Management, Health, Agriculture, Medicine and Natural sciences. The Trustees are convinced that by encouraging students to follow these paths they will contribute to the societal development that is so much cherished.
The Trust’s task has not been entirely easy. Trustees held various campaigns, and with the partnership held with the University of Limpopo Alumni and Convocation Association, they have managed to raise funds, but that was never enough to meet the desired targets. The funds that were allocated in the past went directly into students’ academic fees.
Fundraising activities are held annually and this has proved to be a huge success, as the Trust receives consistent support from the Business Community, UL Alumni and Convocation and Friends of the University of Limpopo.
