Alumni Chapters

Provincial Associations are referred to as Chapters. A provincial association/chapter offers opportunities for continued friendship with fellow alumni and continued engagement with the University of Limpopo.

A Chapter is an extension of the University of Limpopo Alumni and Convocation Association. It is defined along geographic lines within the location where each association is based, namely; Gauteng, North West, Mpumalanga, Limpopo, Free State, KwaZulu Natal, Eastern Cape, Western Cape, and foreign states that are composed of graduates. The provincial/chapter Executive Committee shall consist of:-

  • The Chairperson;
  • The Deputy Chairperson;
  • Provincial Secretary;
  • Provincial Treasure; and
  • An additional member, unless stated otherwise in their adopted provincial/chapter Constitution.
Purpose of a Provincial Association/Chapter
  • To provide opportunities for Alumni and Convocation to socialise with each other;
  • To coordinate international and local Alumni and Convocation activities and events;
  • To provide networking opportunities for Alumni and Convocation;
  • To promote membership of the University of Limpopo Alumni Association;
  • To serve as an official contact person for the Office of Alumni and Convocation Relations and the University; and
  • To carry out specific tasks as allocated to the chapter by the Alumni and Convocation executive.
How to form an Alumni Chapter in your area?
  • The first step in forming a Chapter is deciding whether or not you are willing to serve as the convenor of the chapter;
  • Convenors organise international and local Alumni and keep them connected to the University of Limpopo;
  • As a convenor you would be responsible for the operation of the chapter with the assistance of the Alumni and Convocation Relations at the University, and, ideally, an elected or nominated chairperson of the chapter committee; and
  • The Provincial/ Chapter shall meet at least once a year within its province and at a time and place to be determined by its executive committee. The Chairpersons of province/Chapter shall be EX-Officio members of the Alumni and Convocation Executive.
Limpopo Alumni Chapter

The Limpopo Alumni Chapter is oldest chapter although it was officially inaugurated a bit later. The Chapter was officially inaugurated on 16 September 2017 by the Executive Committee of Alumni and Convocation. It was inaugurated at Bolivia Lodge, Polokwane and the first Chairperson to be elected was Adv. Thandi Mdluli.

The Conference on 18 October 2025 elected the new executive committee as follows: –

Gauteng Alumni Chapter

The Gauteng Alumni Chapter was inaugurated on 24 June 2017 by Executive Committee of Alumni and Convocation. The inauguration was graced by the presence of former Deputy Vice Chancellor and Principal of Limpopo then University of the North (1991-1993) and the first Student Representative Council, Prof Muxe Nkondo and gave a Keynote address. The inauguration took place at Protea Hotel, Midrand and the first Chairperson to be elected was Adv. Mishack Thipe.

The Conference on 15 November 2025 elected the new executive committee as follows: –

Mpumalanga Alumni Chapter

The Mpumalanga Alumni Chapter was inaugurated on 09 June 2018 by the Executive Committee of Alumni and Convocation. The inauguration was graced by the presence of Head of Psychological Guidance services, at Ehlanzeni district and Professor in Leadership and Management at Global Center for Academic Research and South Valley University in Zambia, Prof Abbey Ngoepe who gave words of encouragement and support as an Alumnus within the province. The Inauguration took place at Ingwenyama Conference and Sports Resort, Nelspruit and the first chairperson to be elected was Mr. Themba Mdaka.

Namibia Alumni Chapter

The Namibia Alumni Chapter was inaugurated on 27 July 2019 by the Executive Committee of Alumni and Convocation. The inauguration was graced by the presence of our Alumni and Minister of ICT in Namibia, Honourable Stanley Simataa, who gave the keynote address. The Inauguration took place at Hilton Hotel, Windhoek Namibia and the first chairperson to be elected was Prof. Rehabeam Auala.

The Kwa-Zulu Natal Alumni Chapter was inaugurated on 22 November 2024 by the Executive Committee of Alumni and Convocation.

Kingdom of Eswatini Chapter

The Kingdom of Eswatini Alumni Chapter was inaugurated on 15 November 2025 by the Executive Committee of Alumni and Convocation.
