It gives us great pleasure to invite you to submit applications for the 2026 Vice Chancellor’s Awards for Excellence in Research, Teaching and Learning and Community Engagement.
Applications are invited from interested teaching community members of the University of Limpopo to be considered for the 2026 UL VC’s Teaching and Learning Excellence Awards.
Aims of the Vice Chancellor’s Teaching and Learning Excellence Awards
- To acknowledge Excellence in Teaching and Learning at the University of Limpopo.
- To generate a cadre of academics who are identifiable and able to share best practice and provide inspiration and leadership in teaching and learning in their disciplines, Schools, Faculty, Institution and beyond.
- To provide opportunities for academic staff to develop the necessary experience and evidence in line with the promotion criteria.
- To provide platform for participation in the National Excellence in Teaching and Learning Awards.
Eligibility
The following are eligible to compete for this award:
- Lecturers
- Academic Development Practitioners (ADP)
- All the applicants must have been employed at the University of Limpopo for at least three (3) years.
Award Categories
Awards will be made in each of the following categories:
Established Teacher /ADP/ Established Team in the field of teaching and learning
An individual who has excelled in teaching and learning in Higher Education for more than ten (10) years.
Leadership implies impact beyond the classroom or institution via, for example:
- Influence on professional or disciplinary bodies with regard to teaching and learning
- Capacity building in one’s Department, School or beyond
- Influence via dissemination of research findings and teaching and learning resources
Teaching Team
A “teaching team” is a group of two or more academics who collaborate over a sustained period of time five (5) years or more to develop and deliver a module/course/programme.
Upcoming Teacher/ ADP/ Team in the field of Learning and teaching.
An individual with less than ten (10) years teaching in Higher Education that excels in teaching.
The lecturer has, in a short space of time, demonstrated innovative teaching strategies.
Has taken keen interest in developing his/her teaching. Excellent records of teaching activities and excellent rapport with students.
