
Cancer, Obesity, and Diabetes Research Group (CODrg) at the Department of Biochemistry, Microbiology, and Biotechnology, University of Limpopo, invites prospective PhD candidates to apply for the SAMRC RCDI Nested PhD Scholarship.
The Cancer, Obesity, and Diabetes Research Group is seeking highly motivated and qualified candidates to join our team as a PhD candidate. This opportunity involves exploring the effects
of antioxidants on anticancer drug activity and drug-metabolizing enzymes, with a focus on
advancing therapies for cancer, obesity, and diabetes.
Key Responsibilities
• Investigate the effects of antioxidants on cancer drug activity and drug-metabolizing
enzymes.
• Conduct in silico and in vitro experiments to elucidate the molecular mechanisms of
antioxidant and anticancer drug interactions.
• Present research findings at national and international conferences.
• Mentor Honours students within the research group, fostering collaboration and
knowledge sharing.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:
• Be South African citizens under the age of 30.
• Hold a Master’s degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related field.
• Demonstrate a strong background in cell culture, molecular biology techniques as well
as laboratory and analytical skills.
• Exhibit the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team
environment.
• Possess strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
