The Department of Water and Sanitation at the University of Limpopo is hosting a guest lecture under the theme: “The Limpopo River Basin That Was, Is and Can Become: Transboundary Water Resources Management in a Changing World,” delivered by Professor Gordon O Brien
This initiative is intended to raise awareness of the importance of sustainable and cooperative water resources management within the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
The planned activities will include information on professional registration, insights into employment and career opportunities in the water and sanitation sector, to be undertaken in collaboration with the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS), Lepelle Northern Water, Capricorn District Municipality, Water Institute of Southern Africa (WISA) and the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions (SACNASP). Learners from three STEM-focused schools in the Mankweng area will be part of this event.
The event will provide a platform to deliberate on provincial water and sanitation challenges, transboundary water governance, and water-resource sustainability.
These activities demonstrate the Department’s commitment to addressing water and sanitation challenges through knowledge sharing, stakeholder collaboration and community engagement. In line with the University of Limpopo’s motto, “Finding Solutions for Africa,” we aim to foster innovative, inclusive, and sustainable solutions that respond directly to the continent’s pressing water and sanitation needs.
