Professor Lawrence Sithole, Director of the School of Health Care Sciences at UL, has been appointed to the Elim Hospital Board for a three-year term, which he believes will enhance healthcare services at the facility.

The University of Limpopo (UL) continues to make its mark in the health sector, with recent appointment of Professor Lawrence Sithole, Director of the School of Health Care Sciences, to the Elim Hospital Board in Limpopo
With over two decades of experience in the healthcare industry, Prof Sithole will serve a three-year term. His role will be to act as a vital link between the hospital and the community it serves. His focus will be on strengthening accountability, improving service delivery, and ensuring the institution meets the needs of its patients.
“As a board member, I will facilitate community feedback to ensure healthcare services align with local needs,” he stated. “I will also contribute to the review and development of strategic business plans that align with provincial and national health priorities.”
His responsibilities will also include overseeing the hospital’s financial sustainability.
“My role will involve reviewing management reports and ensuring that effective internal controls for expenditure are in place.”
In addition, Prof Sithole will provide strategic guidance on organisational matters, including human resources and infrastructure maintenance, to support the hospital’s long-term growth and stability.
Expressing his appreciation for the appointment, Prof Sithole said it reflects the value of dedication and professional excellence.
“I feel very excited about this appointment. It shows that recognition comes from the quality of one’s work. My journey has been driven by hard work and commitment to the communities we serve.”
This appointment adds to his growing list of professional leadership roles. In 2025, he was reappointed to the Professional Board for Optometry and Dispensing Opticians.
Prof Sithole believes such appointments demonstrate the calibre of academics at UL.
“It shows that academics at UL are comparable to those anywhere in the country and beyond. When given an opportunity to flourish, the sky is the limit,” he said.
