Advocate Dr. Muzi Sikhakhane S.C., a distinguished senior counsel and practicing advocate, stands as a formidable figure within South Africa’s legal and political arenas. With a keen eye on the nation’s socio-economic landscape, he has openly criticised what he perceives to be an untransformed society, particularly in the years following the momentous end of apartheid in 1994. Despite the political progress, he highlights the ongoing struggles of black South Africans, many of whom continue to experience poverty.
Dr. Sikhakhane is set to deliver a Keynote Address at the highly anticipated 11th Annual Onkgopotse Tiro Memorial Lecture. This year’s theme, “South Africa at the Crossroads – Invoking the Spirit of Tiro,” will be held at the prestigious University of Limpopo. The memorial lecture aims to honour the life, courage, and steadfast convictions of Onkgopotse Tiro, a revered student activist, and intellectual revolutionary who played a pivotal role in the fight for justice and equality.
As South Africa grapples with pressing socio-political and economic challenges, this event will serve as a powerful platform to revisit Tiro’s courageous voice and enduring legacy. Attendees will reflect deeply on his commitment to justice, accountability, and transformative leadership, drawing inspiration from his unwavering spirit.
The Onkgopotse Tiro Memorial Lecture is not just a remembrance; it serves as a clarion call for action. It seeks to reignite the spirit of youth activism and foster a renewed commitment to nation-building among attendees. This important gathering promises to stimulate thoughtful dialogue, provoke critical reflections, and inspire collective action for all who participate.
