As the Director of Student Life, Governance and Development, it is my pleasure to extend a warm welcome to both new and returning students as we embark on another exciting academic year.
At the heart of our university community, the Student Life, Governance and Development (SLG&D) department is here to support and enhance your university experience. Our dedicated team is committed to advocating for your needs, fostering a positive campus environment, and providing essential support services.
Services
Our primary focus is to offer support and advocacy to the Student Representative Council (SRC), affiliated student structures, and the general student body of the University of Limpopo. The table below outlines the roles and responsibilities of the Department.
Student Life
- Provide support to students

Student Governance
- Guide and support the SRC
- Advise SRC on a need for new policies or amendments
- Assist the SRC in ensuring compliance with their constitution
- Provide support to student structures
- Ensure University stability through conflict resolution
Student Development
- Conduct SRC Induction
- Conduct SRC team building sessions
- Provide training and development opportunities for SRC
- Through the SRC, conduct training and development workshops for affiliated student structures
- Assist the SRC to develop a budget and the Plan of Action.

SRC ELECTIONS 2024/25
The University of Limpopo will host the Students Representative Council (SRC) Elections 2024/25 on Monday, 09 September 2024. The Voting will be open from 07:30 to 23:00. This will not affect academic activities.
The University encourages all students to demonstrate political maturity, responsible behaviour, and respect for diverse political views. It is our hope that every student will actively engage in the elections to advocate for a fair and inclusive education system. We urge students to participate in constructive, spirited debates and discussions to ensure an honourable and dignified electoral process.
Kuteno Consulting, headed by the Chief Electoral Officer, has been appointed as the External Electoral Scrutineers.
Students are encouraged to check updates for information on Allstudents@keyaka.ul.ac.za as well as on their cellphone devices.
Electoral Code of Conduct
The SRC Elections “Electoral Code of Conduct” is aimed at promoting “conditions that are conducive for Free and Fair SRC Elections” and that create a climate of tolerance, free campaigning and open public debate.
Nominations submitted must be accompanied by the undertaking binding the Candidate and Observers to adhere to the provisions in the Code of Conduct. Failure to do so creates the risk of Candidates being disqualified from the SRC Elections.
The External Electoral Scrutineers (EES) are empowered by the SRC Constitution, Section 19. (10) to publish an Electoral Code of Conduct. This code will be used to monitor the conduct of Candidates and Structures during the canvassing and electioneering for the elections”.

Candidates are bound by the Code of Conduct and are expected to promote the goals of the Code of Conduct, publicise it during campaigning, promote and support efforts to educate voters on it. All Candidates are expected to comply with this Code and to instruct supporters to comply with it.
Candidates must state publicly, that all have the right to:
- Freedom of expression of political beliefs and opinions.
- Challenge and debate others ‘political’ beliefs and opinions.
- Publish and distribute election and campaign materials.
- Erect banners, billboards, placards and posters, etc.
- Canvass for support.
- Recruit members.
- Hold public meetings.
Candidates must publicly condemn any action that may undermine the free and fair conduct of the elections. Candidates must accept the results of the election or challenge those results as per the SRC Constitution.
PROHIBITED CONDUCT
Candidates and/or Structures are not permitted: to,
- Speak or act in a way that incites violence or intimidation.
- Publish false or defamatory allegations.
- Plagiarise the emblems of other candidates.
- Discriminate on the grounds of race, ethnicity, sex, gender, class or religion.
No person is permitted to:
- Carry weapons
- Prevent reasonable access to voters for campaigning, recruitment or fundraising purposes.
- Remove, deface or destroy election materials.
NB: Over and above this Code of Conduct the Student Rules and Regulations of the University of Limpopo shall be applicable and take precedence.

STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE COUNCIL (SRC)
The SRC consists of seventeen (17) members elected annually during the SRC elections. Recognised as the voice of students, the SRC plays a crucial role in providing support across various dimensions, including academic, financial, and general aspects of student life. Additionally, the SRC represents students in meetings and committees, ensuring their concerns and perspectives are effectively communicated and addressed.
